Too Easy to Forget

I got up this morning and read my Psalm for the day and then turned to the Book of Acts. Personally, one of the main practices/disciplines in my spiritual walk with the Lord that I cherish is starting my time with Him by reading a Psalm and then turning to whichever book in the Bible I am reading. I am not a fan of jumping around from one day to the next.

So Acts is my currently location.

Today I was reading in Acts 10 about how the Holy Spirit spoke to Cornelius, an Italian officer, and Peter, a Messianic Jew, and supernaturally brought them together under the same roof within days. The Bible says that while Peter was sharing Christ with this man and all of his family and friends that he had invited, the “Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message” (Acts 10:44). And then this line appears:

The circumcised believers who had come with Peter (i.e. Jews) were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles (10:45). 

As I read, my heart was pierced in a really good way. A gift. A gift. The creator of the universe gave us something even greater than the Bible (after all, the Bible is not God). He gave us the Holy Spirit. Please read the Books of Acts over the next month. It is ridiculous how many times you find the Holy Spirit getting involved in nitty-gritty situations on a frequent basis to make sure that men and women did what God desired.

Let the word “gift” ring in your heart. I bet you haven’t thought that this in a long time. After all, if you are American, you are a bit too practical. What good is an invisible Spirit, right?

How did I respond? I got out of my chair and on my knees this morning. What was funny is that right before my fit hit the floor as I got out of bed, I prayed, “Good morning, Holy Spirit.” And within an hour of doing so, it seems He was highlighting His own beauty, importance, and value.

He is a gift for us so that we can know Daddy and His Son and then be able to do all He desires. Do you not see that there is no hope for you to bring delight to Daddy, to fulfill your destiny, to be tuned in on the small things with small people, if you are walking in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit?

You have become too satisfied on other things. Maybe even theology. Activity. Leadership. Hobbies. Knowledge. You fill in the blank. I am guilty at times as well.So talk directly to the Holy Spirit. Sing to Him. Dance with Him through word, song, journaling, and meditation.
