Daily Post #111

A Student’s Confession: I currently work three online jobs in the world of education. Two are part-time where I teach philosophy, logic, and ethics at two community colleges. My full-time job is at Enlightium Academy. I was grading an essay today and the student stated personally that they love the Lord. It was so genuine and simple. It reminded me that Christianity is not a set of ideas to believe or a worldview to adopt, but a person—the Trinitarian God—to love.

Various Proverbs: I stated a few days ago that I am reading through the book of Proverbs. I am reading a chapter a day (I have missed some, of course). I usually do this with Psalms, but Proverbs is full of wisdom and I need wisdom. To end the week, here are a few that really grabbed my attention, made me stop and think, turned my heart to God, and challenged me. I keep my Bible open on my desk (I work online) so that I can continually glance at these gems.

Proverbs 27:2 Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.

Proverbs 26:20 “Without wood a fire goes out…” This line made me stop and ask myself: If fire is a picture of my relationship with God, what wood am I placing on the fire? Or am I? Lighter fluid is not enough.

Proverbs 28:13 “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”

Proverbs 28:26 “Those who trust in themselves are fools…” This applies to the dreams that I hold in my heart for my life. Who do I trust? Whose job is it to get me from point A to point B assuming that point B is in God’s will?

I love Proverbs! Thank you for sharing this. Us as a human race are so flawed, this is why we trust in the all knowing, perfect God to fulfill out our God- given dreams and purposes. This was a great reminder because I can’t do anything in my own strength.

    1. I am just now seeing this post. I just “approved” it so that it would go live. Thank you for such kind words. Yes, our sinful nature seems almost impossible to deny. Thankfully, God is making us new, has given us his Spirit along with the Bible and the local church. May he make us more like Christ, more and more until that great day when we see him.
