My New Tradition: Begin Each New Year With This Book

Bob Goff is one of my favorite authors. He is good for me to read. I am more of an introvert than an extrovert and can often find great joy and fulfillment not engaging people. Yet, Jesus loved people and introversion is no excuse to not fulfill the second greatest commandment to love others as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:36–40). Goff’s books Love Does and Everybody Always are wonderful. Another one of his books that I enjoyed reading is Undistracted: Capture Your Purpose. Rediscover Your Joy.

However, there is another book that I want to highlight to begin 2024. I started going through it for a second time last month (Dec 2023). Due to the inspiration, creative ideas, and hope that it produces in me, I have decided that I am going to read/listen to Dream Big: Know What You Want, Why You Want It, and What You’re Going to Do About It every December. I am not quite finished so it has spilled over into January.

The book inspires me to think big thoughts, refuse to be governed by fear, take risks, think of others, and live big. It is so easy to play it safe, settle in, and not go for much after achieving comfort and security. But I don’t crave security; I crave adventure! And Goff reminds me of this.

I invite you to join me in this new tradition. I am going to read or listen to the book every December.

I have also talked to my wife about us listening to the book one chapter at a time over the next month. It will give us raw material to engage, sparking new and interesting conversations about the present and future.
