Someone recently reached out to me and mentioned that they were struggling with realizing they are “washed, clean, and seen as God’s child in Christ.” I want to share my response in hopes that it might help someone else. Keep in mind that I only had a couple of minutes to respond, so it is not overly developed.
Oh the sufficiency of Christ! To hold on to shame and guilt is to not trust in Christ and the sufficiency of his work. We are all sinners. We have all sinned. We all fall short. “Small” and “big” sins end up in the same bucket, a bucket that separates us from God. They were all nailed to the cross. I am convinced that one of the greatest acts of worship we can perform and an act that delights the Father is to trust in his ability to forgive us in and through Christ.
Ahhh, we really are a bunch of ragamuffins (oh how I love reading the late author Brennan Manning—here is his Amazon author page) that desperately need the mercy and grace of God offered in Christ.
