I crave routine.
It is such an important part of who I am and what makes my daily life enjoyable. I look forward to certain practices and pleasures each morning. I sometimes wake up between 3–4:30 am disappointed that it is not time to rise and start the morning. Of course, I could get up at that time, but I know it will not be healthy for me to do so. I regretfully go back to sleep, already excited about getting up and beginning my morning with a cup of coffee. (Yea, I may be strange.)
Each morning, I have a routine that I follow. While the schedule below is flexible and I don’t follow it to a tee, it is an accurate reflection of what most of my mornings look like. These routines still my soul, allow me to start the day slowly and thoughtfully, bring me peace and joy, and focus me for day.
What are your routines, especially in the morning?
What small practices have you put into place that bring you peace and joy before life smacks you in the face?
What can you count on each morning to help you breathe, relax, and focus before you face all that awaits?
I think these are good questions to ask and can go a long way in improving the quality of our lives.
Here is a snapshot of my morning routine:
5:30–5:45 Make Coffee
5:45–7:00 Scripture/prayer/meditation, reading, writing
7:00–7:15 Check blog, social media, book sales, etc.
7:15–7:30 Think slowly & intentionally about my day
7:30 Start online work
