U.S. Open: It was a thrill to watch the 36-year-old Novak Djokovic win the U.S. Open, his 24th major! What an accomplishment. Amazingly, he was down two sets to zero in an early match and fought back to win three sets in a row to advance. I’m enjoying watching tennis, especially the four majors, more than ever.
Colorado Buffalos: I am not a big fan of college football. I don’t know why. I even grew up in Texas: what is my problem? But, there is one team that has absolutely captured my attention: Colorado Buffalos. With Prime Deion Sanders at the helm, his new gig and 3–0 start is already galvanizing the NCAA football world. I love it. Colorado State’s head coach said that people should take off their shades when talking to others and that not doing so reflects bad manners. What does Sanders do? Buy sunglasses for all of his players! He won’t be forced into a mold or do something because someone else says it. While I may or may not agree with some of his tactics, I love his passion! I love his swagger. What I love most is that he refuses to conform to the “system” because that is just what you do. He is not going to cave because it is expected. He will not change because someone else thinks he should. While it is good to learn from others and sometimes make changes based on other people and what they say (we can be challenged, reflect, and realize where we can be and do better), doing so merely to conform or “fit in” is a child’s game. His team is the most exciting story in NCAA Div 1 football right now. I’m a fan. I might even go buy some sunglasses today.
