A Voting Guide for Christians

When you opened this blog, I wonder what you expected to read. Who knows? What you won’t find here is a long spiritual or moral lecture on who you should vote for. While I lean more toward Republican views on many issues, I don’t identify with either party—they’re just labels. It’s like trying to force you to choose between Arminianism and Reformed theology—you don’t have to. Nowhere in the Bible does God require you to take a side on that debate. He simply says: Follow Me.

Recently, some voices within Christianity have argued that not voting is tantamount to sinning. I find this both repulsive and grossly misguided. It smells of manipulation, yet another potential abuse of power. What is next? Tell Christians they are sinning by not voting, and then tell them who they should vote for? Is this merely a way for a speaker/preacher to multiply votes for their candidate of choice? Consciously abstaining from voting out of conviction can be an act performed unto God for His glory, just like voting.

So while labels can be helpful at times and categories useful, true followers of Jesus Christ—no matter how much we care about politics—must remind ourselves of Jesus’ command to be salt and light, no matter how things turn out. In this light, I came across “The Christian Voter’s Guide” on X the other day and wanted to share it for your consideration. I find it extremely helpful and a reminder that we are citizens of another Kingdom.
