#141 The Barred Owl and a Great Website

Great Website for Learning to Identify Birds by Sound: I am writing another children’s book about Aristotle’s metaphysics. Using the acorn is mandatory! In the process, I decided to use an owl as a philosopher. However, I didn’t want just any owl: I wanted an owl that lives in south Mississippi (among other places). So, a Barred owl was chosen.

I give credit to my wife Allison for opening my eyes to the little things in nature. She is an amazing wife, a loving and creative mom, and a wonderful artist. Being around her and listening to what she teaches our kids has inspired me to be able to recognize different types of birds by sight and sound. Websites can also help! One website I found (click here) is great because it teaches you about the bird but also has a “Listen” function that enables you to listen to the sound that the bird makes (over and over and over!).

May worship grow in our hearts as we study and marvel at the great book of nature which God has given us. After all, there are two books: the Bible and nature. While the former is more particular and teaches us how to be reconciled to God (among many other truths about God, ourselves, and the world in which we live), the latter does still reveal the intelligence, power, and beauty of God (i.e., general revelation).
